Mission
The Center for Technology, Innovation and Community Engagement, or CTICE (pronounced SEE-tice), has two basic goals: (1) training a new generation of engineers who are not only technologically skilled but also socially responsible and (2) forging meaningful, productive partnerships between Columbia University and the neighboring community.
CTICE develops, supports, and coordinates activities in four main areas:
- Courses and Programs for Columbia Students, including the first-year design course, advanced engineering courses, interdisciplinary courses, and extensive co-curricular programming.
- Engaged Entrepreneurship Programs, including courses and activities for students, local entrepreneurs, and small businesses; infrastructures that promote new technology ideas; and cross-campus collaborations and community partnerships.
- Youth Programs, including the Harlem Schools Partnership, the Harlem Robotics League, Columbia Kids Care, and the Summer Program for High School Students.
- Community Programs, including the Columbia-Harlem Small Business Development Center and the Service Learning in a Community Environment (SLICE) workforce development program.
Columbia University gratefully acknowledges support from the National Science Foundation, the Boeing Company, the GE Foundation, Pfizer Inc, the National EPICS Program, the Charles Hayden Foundation, the Microsoft Corporation, Prudential Financial, AIG, and Thirteen/WNET.
