Managing Technological Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Description: E4998: “Managing Technological Innovation & Entrepreneurship” examines the development and management of emerging technologies, how they evolve, how to identify them and the effect of international, political, societal, economic, and cultural factors on them. Through the lens of the latest new technologies that will transform information, medicine, transportation, and energy infrastructures, topics covered in these sessions include opportunity recognition, forecasting methodologies, measuring technology trends, creating an organizational culture for sustained innovation, revenue and profit models, and viewing new technologies from a global perspective. Special emphasis will be placed on the creation and management of new technology ventures focusing from idea conceptualization/opportunity recognition to commercialization.
Requirements: Course requirements are based on individual and team assignments. In general, there are three major assignment areas: team case studies, community team projects, and individual new venture journal. Students are expected to attend all classes, keep up with class readings, and complete two course evaluation surveys.
In addition, students must complete the following:
- Technology Case Studies (30 team points)
- Community Entrepreneurship Project (25 team points)
- New Technology Venture Journal (40 individual points)
- Course Evaluation (5 individual points)
